So, What is Career Coaching?

Many of us have a career, whether you are a business owner or working for a company. The Oxford dictionary defines a career as “an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person’s life and with opportunities of progress”. Now whilst careers are changing (it’s unlikely any of us will be in the same career our whole lives – but that’s another blog post!), there is now an increased need for coaching!

Career coaching to me is about stepping back and imagining the life you want to live and how your career compliments that. We spend most of our awake time working, especially in this digital age of constantly being ‘on’, so it’s more important than ever to have a career that works for you and not the other way round.

The aim of coaching is to help support and guide people to make informed decisions about their career development and how that fits into their lives. I work with clients to dig deep into their goals and aspirations and use NLP techniques to look at how we think, feel, speak and behave in order to get results.

People want career coaching for a variety of reasons – some want to pivot their careers and to do something completely different, whereas others want to create a better work/life balance or get a promotion or are stuck on something and want help to figure it out. Many times the initial reason for getting career coaching turns into something much bigger and many people cite a change and improvement in all areas of their lives.

So what can you expect from working with a coach?

I give clients the time and space to delve into their careers and lives in a protected space with no judgement. It’s a safe environment to scope out exactly what is working in your life and career and what is no longer serving you. Life is stressful at the best of times and it’s not often that we step back and assess how we are REALLY feeling and where we want to get to and achieve. This can be a daunting idea but clients gain confidence, insight and a deeper connection to their desires and passions.

Supporting and guiding clients through changes they make in their careers and lives truly lights me up and is such a passion of mine.

So I have a question for you – what do you think career coaching could help you with?
